Jun 23, 2021: Info provided by US Forest Service confirms that as of June 23, 2021, the entire Coconino and Kaibab National Forest have been closed to the public due to extreme fire danger. The public may travel through Coconino National Forest ONLY on designated State, Federal or Interstate Highways. All National Forest System lands, roads and trails within the boundaries of these two National Forest are off-limits unless you have a permit from the US Forest Service that specifically exempts you from these closure orders. The closures will remain in effect until September 21, 2021, unless it is rescinded earlier by the US Forest Service. When these forest lands are open to the public, dispersed Camping is allowed, as confirmed by multiple reports from Apr 2021 & earlier, & info provided by USFS. Numerous camping pull-offs along Long Jim Rd, many with stone fire rings. No hookups, no water, no dump station; no known amenities other than fire rings. Pack your trash out with you. Maximum stay: 14 nights. 2021 rate: Free.
