May 02, 2020: RVer reports that this BLM Campground has re-opened following a temporary closure due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Overnight RV Parking & Camping are allowed, as confirmed by 8 earlier reports from Sept 2013 thru May 2020, & info provided by BLM. BLM Campground has 10 campsites on concrete pads. One RVer arrived to find all sites full, & dry camped in one of several sandy roadway turnouts. No hookups, no potable water on site, no dump station. Potable water (5 gallons/day per person available at Ranger Station on SR 117); limited hours. Some sites level, most will require leveling blocks or jacks. Published max rig length: 36 ft. When turning off SR 117, a short way past cattle guard is a dip that may be problematic for rigs with long wheelbase or long overhang; recommend scouting it out first, but Mar 2020 RVer says it wasn't problematic. Fire pits, BBQ grills, sheltered concrete tables. Trash receptacles, vault toilets. Open all year. No reservations, first come, first served. Max stay: signage states max 7 days in any 28-day period. 2020 rate: Free.
Directions
I-40, Exit 89, then S on SR 117 ~ 10.0 mi (passing ranger station on L at about 8.0 mi); 11.2 mi, turn L into short road (~0.3 mi) to campground. This last turn, formerly marked only by a very small brown sign, now has a highly visible black & white sign.
